The fall edition of the CAPA Newsletter carried an article announcing a $5,000 award for demonstrated excellence in the performance of service in prisoner reentry that would be awarded at the 2010 conference in Milwaukee. The deadline is rapidly approaching for the submission of applications for consideration for this award. You now have less than 90 days left to submit your application, as they are due by March 30, 2010.
As you will recall, this award will be given to an individual or agency that has demonstrated exceptional or outstanding work in the effort to improve outcomes for persons being released from jail or prison. The outcomes or results required for eligibility to receive this award include:
• Specific methods for changing public awareness concerning incarcerated persons;
• Demonstrated leadership that had an impact locally, statewide, or nationally on conditions affecting incarcerated persons; or
• Being a catalyst for change and/or reform of jail or prison policy or procedures.
Only those with up to-date membership in the Christian Association for Prison Aftercare (CAPA) are eligible for this competition.
Instructions for Application Submission
• The individual or organization being considered for the award should respond to one of the three categories listed;
• In the selected category, the nominee should describe, in one page, the work that has been accomplished, and the results that have resulted;
• The deadline for applications is March 30, 2010.
• The top three submissions will be advanced to the second round of competition.
• Those who advance past the first round of competition will be asked to submit a more in –depth application. Details will be provided at that time.
• The final selection will then be made by the committee following a direct comparison of the three applications against the stated CAPA goal of recognition “an individual or organization that has demonstrated exceptional or outstanding work in the effort to improve outcome for persons being released from jail or prison.” The winning individual or organization will be announced at the 2010 CAPA conference.
